The Parsonage

HISTORY
  History of The Parsonage

This solid brick, Georgian home was built as the parsonage to the first permanent church on the Victorian Goldfields.

The original sections of the Methodist church and Parsonage were constructed in 1858 on the site of the first sermon preached in Maldon in 1853.

Situated in the heart of a classified town, the house itself is steeped in history. It was the birthplace of William Maldon Woodfull, OBE, BA, Dip Ed, captain of the Australian cricket team labeled "The Invincibles" that included the young Don Bradman.

At the time of Bill's birth, on Sunday 22nd of August 1897, his father was the minister of the Maldon Methodist church. Bill also gained distinction as a noted educationalist, becoming the principal of Melbourne High School. See maldon.org.au/Bill-Woodfull/index.shtml

THE TOWN OF MALDON

Maldon is a tourist town, a 90 minute drive from the heart of Melbourne, 30 minutes from Bendigo.

As Australia's first "notable" town, 1 of only 2 classified towns in Victoria, the heritage overlay continues to preserve it's authenticity.

Rich in gold mining history, tunnels and diggings abound.
